Perth’s crowded places need help to counter complacency over terror risk

A parliamentary inquiry into the protection of WA’s crowded places – such as sporting events and music festivals – has found they need more direction, support and oversight to effectively counter the risk posed by terrorism and have fallen into the complacent belief «attacks happen somewhere else».

The Community Development and Justice Standing Committee released its final report into the protection of crowded places on Thursday afternoon.

Last year the committee found WA’s crowded places were struggling to navigate the complex counter-terrorism environment.

Committee chairman Peter Katsambanis said the inquiry showed just how importance of the community in preventing and responding to counter-terrorism.
